Health & Well-being Day – 4th July 2019

On Thursday 4 July 2019 the team at Choose Occupational Health took part in a Well-being event as part of our celebrations for ten years in business. As an organisation that has such a big focus on well-being, it was a great opportunity to bring the team together to learn some new skills.

The afternoon began with a healthy lunch. Everybody brought something different to share including fruit, salad, various types of houmous, carrot & cucumber sticks.

After lunch we took part in a Pilates and relaxation session, hosted by Nigel Douglas, physiotherapist. We worked through a range of different exercises and learnt more about the benefits of doing Pilates on a regular basis. The session ended with five minutes of relaxation. It was surprising how long five minutes can feel when you are relaxed, and it was lovely to have some time to switch off.

Our second skills session was focused on meditation and hosted by Clare Harris who works in holistic health. We tried a couple of different meditations and learnt more about how these techniques can be used in everyday life. As we are all so busy, it was great to be able to take away some tips on how we can meditate ‘on the go!’ We found that we were all extremely relaxed after the exercises and felt refreshed and focused. Claire talked us through the healing properties of crystals and the philosophy behind each one.

The final session was delivered by Andy Steele, hypnotherapist. He talked about his inspiring journey and shared some self-help strategies that can be used in different situations. He taught us more about energies and gave several practical demonstrations.

As a team, we found that the Health & Well-being event left us feeling really positive. Rachael from the admin team said, “I really enjoyed the Health & Well-being Day. I left feeling refreshed and inspired. I loved the Pilates and I think this is something I would like to do again in my spare time. The meditation was really interesting, especially the crystals and the meanings behind them. Learning about hypnotherapy and energy was fascinating and I found Andy’s story inspiring. It was great to see how meditation and exercise can improve your well-being and it has made me more aware of making time for myself. I also feel more confident in using these techniques going forward.”
