I qualified as a nurse in 1985, and while working in occupational health wasn’t an obvious choice for me, it’s a role I’ve found myself in and it’s one I find incredibly rewarding. I’ve extensive experience of working in primary and secondary care, including practice and community working. It’s my practice nursing skills which I find are most useful to me in my current role at Choose OH.
The work is varied and rewarding; I always look forward to coming to work. Jobs are important to people – 75% of the UK population is in work – so helping to facilitate health and wellbeing within a work setting is vitally important. The work we’re involved with at Choose OH is hugely relevant because it’s such a core part of people’s everyday lives. You also get to meet a broad variety of people, which keeps the day to day interesting.
Working in occupational health is different to other clinical settings, but it doesn’t diminish its importance and I enjoy being able to bring my knowledge and experience to my job here and make a difference for people.
